Introduction

Reducing carbon emissions through responsible use of fossil fuels, Committed to generating electricity at reasonable prices by controlling the cost of energy generation and maintaining consistently excellent performance and efficiency, To expand our business area with agility in a way that benefits all stakeholders of the company, and to strive to improve the quality of life of locals working in the vicinity of power generation plants by making changes that are consistent with the economic cycle and the dynamic energy market to always succeed. In exercise of the powers conferred under the Electricity Act, 2003, the Government of Maharashtra had transferred all the assets, rights and liabilities of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board, which existed before that date, to the Government of Maharashtra with effect from 4th June 2005. The said property, which was handed over to the Government of Maharashtra, was handed over to the following 4 government companies from 6th June 2005 under the Maharashtra Power Reform Transfer Scheme, 2005.

The policies of the Department of Energy are effectively implemented by Maharashtra State Electricity Holding Company Ltd., Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd., Maharashtra State Electricity Generation Company Ltd., Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd., Chief Electrical Inspector and Maharashtra Energy Development Agency under the Department of Energy.The Department of Energy comes under the aegis of the Industry, Energy, Labour, and Mining Department of the Government of Maharashtra and is primarily responsible for the development of electrical energy infrastructure and promoting sustainable energy transition in the state. The department is concerned with long-term planning, policy formulation, monitoring of the implementation of schemes, programs & projects, ensuring efficient allocation of the department’s funds & monitoring expenditures, and overseeing the administration of energy regulations & standards.A Government of Maharashtra owned company named The MSEB Holding Company Ltd. was incorporated under Companies Act, 1956 after trifurcation of the erstwhile Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) with an objective to invest in companies engaged in the field of generation, transmission, distribution, and trading of electricity. The company holds its wholly owned subsidiaries namely Maharashtra State Electricity Power Generation Company Ltd. (MSPGCL), Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd. (MSETCL), and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (MSEDCL) that play important roles in the operation of the energy sector in the state of Maharashtra. Additionally, the department stands empowered by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), Electrical Inspectorate (EI), and Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA). Through this collaboration, government ensures smooth and fair implementation of Electricity Laws and accelerate the adoption of clean energy solutions.
